Christmas Lights Switching-On Ceremony
Morpeth Town: Saturday 22nd November 2008
There will be a Mistletoe Fair in the Town Hall commencing at 12:00 noon, with
special Christmas Features in the Market Place, including a children’s ride.
The timetable for the day is as follows:
The programme will be preceded by the Children’s Lantern Procession, commencing at 3:50 pm, lead by Morpeth Pipe Band.
4:10 – 4:15 pm: Welcome and Introduction by Morpeth Town Council Chairman,
Councillor Ken Brown.
4:15 – 4:45 pm: Northumbrian Water Ellington Colliery Band will accompany carol singing in the Market Place, outside Aruba; carol sheets will be distributed by Morpeth
Town Council.
4:15 pm: Carol singing, led by the (Not) The Three Tenors -Roy Beasley, Reverend Ron Forster and Jim McAllister.
Our Master of Ceremonies this year will be Councillor Derek Thompson.
4:40 pm: Christmas Address by the Rector of Morpeth, Revd. Robert McLean.
4:45 pm: The Chairman of Morpeth Town Council to introduce Miss Eliza Brewster, the Fair Day Fancy Dress Winner to Switch-On the Christmas Lights.
Festive bellringing by the Clock Tower Bellringers.
The programme will be preceded by the Children’s Lantern Procession, commencing at 3:50 pm, and there will be a Mistletoe Fair in the Town Hall commencing at 12:00 noon, with special Christmas Features in the Market Place, including a children’s ride.
(Please note, although the ride is free-of-charge, donations to the Mayoress’s Charity Appeal and next year’s Christmas Lights would be welcome – Thank you.

Silver Morpeth - Daytime singing for the over 50s
Thursdays 10.30 – 12.00 in St James Community Centre, Morpeth.
If you are over 50 and would like to sing in the daytime come along to our Silver Morpeth group, presented in partnership with The Sage Gateshead.
You don’t need to have any previous experience of singing, or be able to read music - just come along and enjoy singing for fun. The group doesn’t meet every week, so please contact us to check dates.

Woodhorn Matters at Morpeth
Woodhorn Matters mat-making group was formed in 1993. This friendly group meets on
Wednesdays 12 noon-3 pm and Sundays 12 noon – 4 pm at Morpeth Methodist Church, Howard Terrace, Morpeth. They famously appeared on BBC 1’s Billy Connelly’s Tour of Britain series and Radio 4’s ‘A Stitch in Time programme with Kaffe Fassett. They make mats and other items using the traditional techniques of hooking and progging. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Tools and equipment are available for beginners.

The trustees of the Old Bakehouse Millennium Green, which is situated just off Newgate Street in the town centre, are looking for volunteers who can give two
to four hours of their time each month to help look after this tranquil garden.
Ideal for people who enjoy gardening but perhaps have only a small garden themselves and would like to help out with a bigger project. Tools and gloves
