MORPETH TOWN COUNCIL PLEDGES £10,000 to FLOOD RELIEF APPEAL 

Ken Brown, Chairman of Morpeth Town Council presented a cheque of £10,000 to the flood relief appeal on Thursday 11th September. 

Morpeth Town Council offered its deepest sympathy to all Morpeth residents and businesses affected by the flooding which devastated the Town of Morpeth on Saturday 6th September 2008. 

It also applauds the recovery and rescue efforts of the emergency services, the Borough and County Councils, voluntary groups and many individuals who responded to the desperate needs of neighbours.


Northumbria in Bloom Competition - 2008

Morpeth Town wins a gold award and the title of Best Town for 2008. 
This is the fifth time in six years that Morpeth has won the Northumbria title.

Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade also win a gold award and the title of Best Shopping Precinct.

Rutherfords Department Store: Silver Gilt Award Commercial Enterprise
Admiral Collingwood Court: Silver Gilt Award Residents of a Community

Britain in Bloom Competition - 2008

Britain in Bloom Britain in Bloom
Morpeth Town were awarded a Silver Gilt Award in the National Britain in Bloom Competition in the Best Town Category. The title of Best Town in Britain went to Forres in Scotland.

Morpeth were rewarded with a Local Roots Award for their interpretation and activities celebrating Morpeth’s William Turner 500th Anniversary, Emily Wilding Davison Grave restoration and Lord Collingwood. 

A special discretionary honour of Champion Award went to Les English from the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade for his efforts in getting the commercial sector in the Morpeth in Bloom Campaign.


Morpeth Town Council have developed a perfect partnership with The Chamber of Trade, Castle Morpeth Borough Council’s Green & Clean team, Heighley Gate Garden centre and many other support organisations throughout the town who help to make Morpeth a beautiful town to live, visit and work.
