MAYOR & TEAM take part in SWIMATHON ! - April 2011

Mayor Ken Brown and his team of swimmers completed 75 lengths in 1 hour as part of the Morpeth Lion’s annual swimathon raising over £300 for charity on Saturday 9th April 2011. Never again !!!!!!!

MAYOR’S CIVIC BALL – A GREAT SUCCESS! - March 2011

Mayor of Morpeth – Councillor Ken Brown hosted a fantastic Mayors Ball on Saturday 12th March 2011 in the Riverside Leisure Centre in Morpeth.

Over £1,500 was raised for Contact Mental Health and Northumberland County Blind Association – two Morpeth based charities.

A big “Thank You to all the local businesses who supplied raffle prizes and to Coca Cola who provided some sponsorship for the event.

NEW MAYOR OF MORPETH ELECTED - May 2011

A new Mayor of Morpeth was elected by Morpeth Town Council at their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 18th May 2011.

Cllr. Phil Taylor was elected as mayor of Morpeth and his wife Joan as Mayoress.

Cllr. Mark Horton was elected Deputy Mayor with his wife Lynne as Deputy Mayoress.

Morpeth Town Council has signed up to the 10:10 campaign.

What is the 10:10 Campaign and why should we sign up?

The 10:10 campaign wants all people and organisations to cut 10% in carbon emissions in the year 2010.

Morpeth Town Council has committed to support the national campaign to reduce Britain’s emissions steeply in 2010. Morpeth Town Council will work hard to reduce the energy it uses and encourages all of its suppliers, contractors and customers to take part in this campaign too.


Morpeth Town Council celebrates 25th Anniversary - May 2009

Morpeth Mayor Ken Brown accepts the 25th Anniversary cake with Jim Rudd, one of the first elected members of Morpeth Town Council.


SANDERSON ARCADE - Nov 2009

After three years of planning and building work, the new 32million pound Sanderson Arcade was officially opened by “Ab Fab” Star Joanna Lumley on Thursday 12th November 2009. Mayor of Morpeth, Ken Brown was officially invited to take part in the opening celebrations and welcomed Joanna Lumley to our very special and unique town which has been enhanced with the opening of the new shopping centre and bus station.

Morpeth District Community Forum

Morpeth District Community Forum is established to provide a voice for the local communities as part of the new Unitary Authority arrangements. Morpeth, Hebron, Hepscott, Longhirst, Mitford, Pegswood and Stannington parish councils have commenced working together to create a community forum which hopefully will become an essential part of the democratic structure of Northumberland.  Stuart Lishman is the Chairman of the Morpeth District Community Forum

MORPETH TOWN COUNCIL PLEDGES £10,000 to FLOOD RELIEF APPEAL - September 2008

Ken Brown, Chairman of Morpeth Town Council presented a cheque of £10,000 to the flood relief appeal on Thursday 11th September 2008

Morpeth Town Council offered its deepest sympathy to all Morpeth residents and businesses affected by the flooding which devastated the Town of Morpeth on Saturday 6th September 2008. 

It also applauds the recovery and rescue efforts of the emergency services, the Borough and County Councils, voluntary groups and many individuals who responded to the desperate needs of neighbours.


LOCAL LOO SCHEME FOR MORPETH - May 2011

Morpeth Town Council has teamed up with businesses in the town to provide mre access to clean, safe toilets. The scheme has been launched to add to the public toilets already available in the Bus Station, Carlisle Park and at The Terrace Car Park.

Restuarants, pubs and shops are being encouraged to offer the use of their toilets free of charge during opening hours.

Look for the "More Loos in Morpeth" stickers displayed in participating businesses.

 


MAKING MORPETH A PLASTIC BAG FREE TOWN - July 2011

Morpeth Town Council has adopted a policy to encourage Morpeth to become a plastic bag free town. By working with Morpeth Chamber of Trade and all of the businesses and market traders in Morpeth this could happen!


WEDDING FAIRS HELD IN MORPETH TOWN HALL  - August & October 2011

Happy couples were invited to a wedding fair held in Morpeth Town Hall on Thursday 25th August. The next fair will take place on Sunday 23rd October from 10am to 4pm. The fairs are organised by Morpeth Town Council and Northumberland Registration Services.

Couples can view the Town Hall which is now home to the Morpeth Registry Office. It provides a popular venue for the wedding ceremony and there is the opportunity to hold the reception in the Corn Exchange. Local businesses specialising in wedding services provided advice and ideas, with a fantastic display of goods and services.
